Why I Like NDP Even When I Don’t Get to Watch It Live

I’ve been watching alot of tv lately, okay not really alot but just enough to catch the Singapore Idol trailers with them singing the National Day songs and I’m fully in the National Day mood already. In case you guys didn’t see the trailers, you can check it out above! I got it from youtube but still, it gets you into the whole National Day mood.

Time has seriously zoomed past this year so quickly and National Day’s one my favouritest days of the year cos I’m just patriotic like that. I’ve seriously never had the luck in successfully getting NDP tickets through balloting or any other way possible. The last time I caught the parade live was when I was still in Primary 5 (or pri 3?) and they made it mandatory that we go catch the rehearsals, I remembered a young buck-toothed primary school girl who spent the entire parade frowning and sulking because of the sweltering heat and not appreciating the performance at all. ): Now I regret not appreciating it because karma struck me hard and for the next few (few is an understatement) years where I actually wanted to watch it live, I never got a chance to..

I started out wanting to watch it because I loved fireworks and I actually found out that the purpose of fireworks was actually to boost a country’s morales because the brightly lit fireworks in the sky makes people happy when they see it and hence it helps. Not sure how much of that is true but fireworks sure makes me happy. (: And as time went by, I watched it for the whole mood of the parade because you see random Singaporeans on the screen once in a while singing their lungs out, waving their flags and all.

Well back to what I was saying, I have the worst of luck when it comes to getting NDP tickets but it doesn’t stop me from enjoying the parade from the comfort of my own home, even though despite living on the 12th floor, my house does not face the direction of the fireworks. I only manage to catch a very pathetic glimpse of the plane carrying the flag and even so, I need the binoculars.

But as we’re always taught, when life throws you, lemons make lemonade, cliche I know but this coming Sunday I’m gonna stock up on my tidbits at home, bring out my dusty but trusty binoculars and sit in front of the telly and enjoy my parade and the glimpse of the flag in the distant. Aaaand also, this coming week I’m gonna check out the NP National Day celebrations! Very excited, gonna sleep now! (:
