Greetings from Germany!

Hello there! I'm Mark Keong, a third-year student at NP's School of Engineering. :) I'm currently pursuing a Diploma in Electronic & Computer Engineering, majoring in Microelectronics (that's the science and technology involved in the making and using of very small electronic parts) and I'm here to share with you guys about my fab overseas experience!

For my  sixth and final semester, I had the chance to travel all the way to Germany for my attachment at the University of Applied Science in Mannheim. The weather is always lovely here at Mannheim, a small industrial city situated south of Frankfurt. The people are friendly too! I am currently working with Professor Jorge Best to build a laboratory board, which will be used to teach his students the basics of a microchip. It's a really interesting project and I feel privileged to have this opportunity. Everyone at the uni has been very helpful so we students never feel left out :P

I'm staying at a hostel just across from the university (It's really clean, comfy and welcoming!) and I feel right at home 'cos there are many Singaporeans here, some of which are Ngee Ann alumni. :) There's a lot of support from everyone and dinner is often a warm and fun pot-luck affair.

Weekends are great 'cos I would travel around Germany with a couple of friends (we went to Munich for Oktoberfest!). When there's more time, we go even further. I've visited Amsterdam and Belgium, and I'm thinking of where to go next. :)  Every trip is a learning experience and I really love the freedom and independence of it all, backpacking with friends. Sometime, I feel as I've walked onto the set of Discovery Channel Travel + Living. :) I've always thought that I would travel the world when I'm older, but I'm already living my dream now!

Thank you NP, for the wonderful opportunities!
