How to Find Your Identity

Back when I was young (uhhhhh this makes me sound like I’m ancient, but whatever), I was always thinking about the future. I guess I’m just anxious for the future, wanting to do the best in everything so that even though I don’t know what I want to do, I’d have options to choose from.

So I pushed myself to do better (sometimes) and chose the “best” option - meaning the option my parents/seniors/teachers thought were the best. The best option, though, is not necessarily what you want to do, or what’s best for you. All the people with a major influence on my decisions thought that Triple Science (Biology, Chemistry & Physics) was the best. I wanted to choose the Art stream. I liked art and drawing and I wanted to paint and stuff. But it wasn’t practical, because if you chose the Arts Stream you couldn’t jump to the Sciences Stream if you changed your mind halfway, whereas you always could if you took the Triple Sciences.

There was also kind of like, a social ranking “system” that depends on the choices you make or are given. People who did Triple Sciences were the Elite (which meant they were kinda cooler than you); Double Science slightly lower class; followed by Arts, Home Economics and finally, D&T (I think it’s Design and Technology. Not sure). So I guess I gave in somewhat to peer pressure just decided to take the Sciences route, and I eventually ended up hating Physics a lot.

i am coolehz than u.

Too many formulas....... Boring...... Science stuff...... Head hurts........

To this day, I still wonder what might have happened, if I had chosen that Art class instead. Maybe I wouldn’t be here. Maybe I’d be in a fancy art school like La Salle or NAFA. I dunno. It’s interesting to think about sometimes, though. Like, would I still have turned to the arts eventually? Like how I sort of am now, except my medium is writing and not painting? Who would I be now? What would I be doing now? I dunno. Lots of questions, though.

Well, eventually I ended up in Ngee Ann, and I remember being really fed up with trying to decide what was the best option to choose. So imagine my delight when I found out there’s a pretty cool workshop for all you “O” level kids!

Basically, it’s a workshop that helps you find out more about yourself. Like what do you really want to do, what’s your strengths, what’s your personality like and what you’d be best suited to doing. It’s called F.Y.I. Workshop @ Ngee Ann, and it’s happening soon in a few weeks.

It’s really useful ‘cause you get to do a Personality Mapping exercise, and you get to find out tips on how to ace your DPA application (if you have a poly in mind), and how to make your choices for JAE and JPSAE work for you. Then afterwards, you also get a tour around Ngee Ann, so if you’re thinking about NP, this is your chance to get to know the place better!

So! Here’s the details:
