Goodbye Ngee Ann & Hogwarts!

May 27, 2010 12:26 AM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

Yesterday morning, I woke up bright (ok not very bright) and early.. No no, scratch that - Yesterday morning, my mum dragged me out of bed at 6am. Yes, she dragged.. My neighbours were obviously not too pleased hearing a shrill female voice go "NOOO, MUMMY 5 MORE MINUTES PLEAAAAASE?!"

So I eventually got out of bed, I had to.. I've waited for this day patiently for the past 3 years of my life and I wasn't gonna miss it for the world. If you haven't guessed by now.

Yeah, I'm finally done with my diploma and am graduating from this school! In the days leading up to yesterday, I had mixed feelings about graduation - nervous, reluctant, sad, happy, nostalgic. It was so weird, because I honestly didn't know how to feel.. I didn't know if I should be glad I'm finally done with my diploma or should I be sad that I'll be leaving Ngee Ann, which has been my second home for the past 3 years. Yes, I have spent Sundays in school even.. so pretty much a second home already. Plus my obsession with the school food and the Loft@94! Hahaha. I was a bit reluctant because a week back I went to collect my graduation gown and I thought that I looked really strange in it (like I was in Hogwarts!) but then again.. that look grew on me! :D

Yes being Miss Kiasu, I invited my mom, my aunts and my cousin. I HAD to spread the joy alright! Ok shall let the photos do the talking for now!

That's me on stage getting my diploma! I swore I had sweaty palms when I was walking on that stage, mega stage fright but it all turned out fine and relatively fast!

Okay almost every photo I took that day would include my really bright and pink iPhone! I'm currently giggling at my photos now because my friends are all complaining about the constant appearance of my iPhone in the photos. Its so nostalgic, looking at the photos and thinking about how I met each of these friends for the first time and how we went through 3 years of our poly lives together rushing assignments and projects!

Alright one last photo of me, Ronald (manager of m:idea) and my pink iphone.

I'm going to miss Ngee Ann like crazy after this ):

Soft and Silky!

May 19, 2010 12:39 AM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

For some really strange and morbid reason, I've had this tau huay / soya beancurd craving for the longest time ever. It's been on and off for a couple of weeks and I was too busy (ok fine, too lazy) to walk over for my favourite beancurd at...........

I can still remember the first time a friend of mine brought me here for tau huay, I was blown away!!!!!!! It wasn't too sweet, neither did it have a very paste-like taste to it. It's exactly how tau huay has always been described to be, smooth and silky. I almost said melts in your mouth but not in your hands but then I remembered thats for M 'n' Ms! Hahaha. Well this week alone, I satisfied my tau huay craving finally and not just once but TWICEEEEEEE! :D

Hahah my two tau huay-crazed friends who very lovingly dragged me for tau huay after hearing me whine about it for the 100th time! Oh and one special thing about Rochor beancurd is the entire concept of the place! You have a choice between an airconditioned room on the second floor OR the back alley where they put out tables for us to sit!

I personally love sitting at the back alley, there's just something about sitting in the back alley (even though there isn't any aircon), it's really cosy and really perfect when you're with a group of friends and all you guys wanna do is sit down and catch up over tau huay!

Check out our grub for the night! I always have the cold tauhuay (you can have it either cold or warm) with soya bean milk added on top for that extra oomph and milkiness! Smooth! And then we had more! You tiao or fried dough fritters are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You dip it in coffee, in milo and in our case, in tauhay! It becomes mushy and soft, soaking up the tauhay and you quickly bite/chew on it and it tastes sweet and heavenly! Fwah!!! Are you hungry already??

And Rochor Beancurd sells not only youtiao but this other pastry called.. butterfly bun, not sure if you guys know what's that but it's really good and certainly not a butterfly! The bun is shaped like a butterfly, that's how it gets its name. And you think only the tauhay and youtiao are good here? Well, they sell really yummy egg tarts! It's comparable to the KFC egg tarts which I'm absolutely addicted to but that's another story for another daaaaaay!

Now I'm off to pinch on the extra box of tau huay in my fridge! No, I'm not sharing. <3

Get Bruced!

May 11, 2010 10:40 PM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

I've always been the typical Chick Flick sorta girl, but I met my guy friends just the other day and they wanted to catch a movie so I was forced to watch....

Ip Man 2

Before I say anything, I must let you guys in on something really embarassing. Before I watched the show, I thought the show was called I-P MAN 2. Turns out, it is actually called "EEP-MUN 2". For those of you who understand Chinese - 叶问2:宗师传奇.

No wonder my guy friends all stared at me funnily when I kept saying I didn't want to watch I-P MAN 2...

After watching the show, all I can say is - WOW.

I can't believe I actually didn't catch the prequel of this movie because the fight scenes were FANTASTIC.

Ip Man 2, the sequel to the 2008 film - Ip Man is actually a semi-biographical martial arts film about the life of Ip Man, a grandmaster of Wing Chun martial arts. The show picks up action from the 1950s where Ip Man (played by Donnie Yen) arrives in the then Hong Kong that was still under the British Colonial Rule, with his young son and his heavily pregnant wife. In an attempt to make a living for his impoverished family, Ip Man struggles to establish a martial arts school hoping to propagate the art of Wing Chun martial arts. Due to his lack of fame, Ip Man struggled to bring in students UNTIL he meets the young and arrogant Wong Leung who loses to Ip in a series of sparring. Impressed by Ip Man's skills, Wong and his friends becomes his students and even bring in additional students. However other maritial arts school in the area aren't happy with the growing popularity of Wing Chun, in particular Hung Ga martial arts school who refused to allow Ip Man to set up shop on their turf. When Leung gets into a fight with one of the students from Hung, Ip Man is forced to face Hung to fight for his release.

The film did a fantastic job in focusing on what the audience headed to the cinemas for - the fight scenes!

The most exciting fight scene for me would definitely be the scene between Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung, two kung fu experts that were forced to come to blows unleashing their Wing Chun and Hung Kuen martial arts on each other respectively while struggling for balance on a teetering table.

Most people, like me would admit the parts of the show that they paid most attention to would be the fight scenes because that's where all the action is.

The first hour was definitely exciting with the fight scenes and the gradual build up to the pivotal moment of the show BUT, yet this leaves the movie struggling for action in the second hour and having to resort to turning its attention to the building tension between the local chinese and the government by the fight scene played by a Boxer named Twister who offends the chinese (mainly Hung) during one of the ceremonial martial arts display.

From this point on, the entire movie turns into a typical fight tournament with one fight scene after another, which may or may not be a good thing because it completely leaves out a proper storyline for the show!

But I think what the movie managed to pull off well was definitely the authenticity of the period of the show. The director of the movie managed the period setting and the high production value to create a movie more than just another action film! Also, the dialogue betweent the characters also carried some wit and was ensured that it was nothing less than enjoyable!

And I read that Bruce Lee was supposed to be the intended focus in this movie but were unable to finalise film rights with Bruce Lee's descendents therefore they had to settle with just portraying Bruce Lee as a young child near the end of the movie. Overall, I thought the show was enjoyable even though I was never the sort to know much about martial arts films but I'm actually itching to go check out the first Ip Man now! :D

Brawns and Muscles

April 29, 2010 12:58 AM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

Helloooo everyone!

Just last weekend, I was at Bedok Reservoir for some heart-pumping, mind-boggling action! Oh and also to add, I was also basking in the company of lots and lots and LOTTTTTTTS OF EYE CANDY!

Nah, i wasn't there to check out the scenery or to watch people jogging! :)

Yeap, I was there for the annual PA Paddle Championship! Well, PA Paddle is actually an annual event held at Bedok Reservoir hosted by the People's Association! It involves several water events such as Dragonboat, Canoeing and Kayaking! The participants come from secondary schools all the way till the open category which has participants who are probably 40 plus? I was really amazed because these adults are so fit and healthy and can even row faster than participants our age!! The competition takes place over 2 days. The 1st day would be the heats and 2nd would be the finals!

I was there with a friend to support his team and also with my hidden agenda to scout out possible eyecandies! ;D

Just imagine, a place filled with tanned muscular and fit boys! Ok and for the guys, trust me there are equally as many tanned and fit hot chicks over there! I felt so unhealthy and unfit standing amongst the athletes over there! ): Note to self* Need to go running more often now and tan myself to an even colour! Hahaha.

Lucky for us, we knew some of the participants so we got to sit in the athlete's tent! So the view was really really clear with nobody blocking our view of the race! I know the boats look small here but I still haven't figured out how I can zoom on my iPhone so forgive me ): Oh well, small or not, I got the chance the enjoy the entire race with no cameras blocking me! But it wasn't as exciting as I had expected, I was expecting live commentary from the sound system and a lot more hype but apart from the starting horn and some cheers here and there, that was all ): But I can't ask for much can I? It's merely a 300m race so the commentary would be too short! Didn't manage to snap a shop of the kayaking and canoeing events cos it was over by the time we got there. Sorrrrry, lunch took a little too long :D

Hahaha, no I haven't gone crazy but the reason why this photo's slanted had a reason. These 3 boys in front of us were really quite adorable, I guess they were new rowers and were going to go for a few rounds of practice while the race was going on! But the kayak kept capsizing on them, I felt so bad for them but yet at times I laughed a little at them. Which I feel horrible about because if you were to leave me with a kayak, I swear it wouldn't just capsize, it might just sink to the base of the reservoir because I have no idea how to handle it. It was pretty memorable because they didn't give up AT ALL, it took them a whole 30 mins to successful get on and row away but they didn't run off from embarrassment or anything because a lot of people were sitting behind them. They just kept trying. I had to take a secret photo of them, so I had to pretend that I was showing my friend a video since I was directly in front of them and I didnt want them to think I was laughing at them! Heh.

Oh oh oh! And if I'm not mistaken, the Ngee Ann Dragonboat team came in first for the 20 Men's heats! Gooooooood job boys! :D

I enjoyed my experience there, being my first time at such a race. I can't say I wish I was one of them because I can't swim and if my boat were to capsize, I would be completely helpless so I do what I do best - be a spectator!! :D

Run for H2O

April 20, 2010 10:09 PM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

I come bearing news, okay I guess not exactly news but just something I'm pretty excited to share with everybody here!

2 days ago on 18th April 2010 - I did something for the first time in my entire life.

I woke up bright (ok no, not bright) and early, waaaaaaaaaay before sunrise and showered in horribly cold water. I packed my bag with all the necessary equipment and I left the house even before my mom woke up. It was something really new to me, I've never done this in my entire life. True, the thought did cross my mind once or twice during my life but I never had the courage to get down to doing it. A week ago, I was asked to do it and I couldn't say no, so I agreed and when the day came, I actually felt a little nervous.

Okay I know you guys must be thinking I'm crazy or something, drifting from being excited to sounding so serious! Hahah but well, here's another clue to what I did.

Fine, this photo is practically as vague as anything else but well. I woke up bright and early 3 days ago and headed over to the F1 Pit Building because I was going to take part in the Dow Live Earth Run For Water! It was the longest distance I've ever ran in my life, ok don't judge, I'm not exactly a very sporty person and I consider chewing the most exercise that I do in a long long time. So running 6km really got me sweating and all nervous!

My bosses had a booth for my workplace over at the event and they asked me and a few of my other colleagues to take part in the run! Once in a lifetime experience, I seriously couldn't say no!

So the day before the run, I actually went to Google, my best friend of many years to read up on what The Dow Live Earth Run For Water event was all about, I mean you can't just go run without knowing what is the cause you're running for RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT!?

The Dow Live Earth Run For Water consists of a series of 6km runs/walks taking place over the course of 24 hours in 192 countries around the world. The event features concerts and water education activities aimed at igniting a tipping point to help solve the global water crisis.

Also, 10% of the entry fee for the run will be donated to our local water charity NGO partner, Lien Aid (on another note, our NP media conglomerate m:idea handled and managed the booth with great aplomb!) to support water projects around the region!

I know you guys must be wondering why a 6km run and why not 10km or even just 1 km run right? Well, that's because 6km is actually the average distance women and children have to walk everyday to get access to clean and safe water in developing countries! Aren't you glad that all of us are so lucky we don't have to do that?

Thats me with my running partner on my right and my other 2 colleagues who ran 6km like it was a breeze!

Running the 6km actually made me realize that even though 6km seemed like a small number, running it / walking it is really no joke! Imagine having to walk that distance everyday just for water, it would be insane. I almost gave up running throughout the entire 6km and walked but my partner really spurred me on and told me to keep running and I can proudly say I finished the run under an hour! Hahah, fine it isn't a timing to be proud about but before the run started, I actually told my colleagues that I'll probably be done the next day instead!

There were actually some runners who carried a jerry can weighing 20kg running throughout the 6km! Now, that's what I call running for water!

Ohh! And I need to show you guys the nice shoes I got to wear for this run!

Mine's the yellow one at the bottom! And I really fell in love with it because it's by far the most comfortable pair of running shoes I have!!

And and and, apart from the 6km run, there was also a 1km run specially for kids! It was so cute seeing them getting ready and dashing off when the horn sounded!

There were almost 200 plus kids who took part of ALL ages! Some as young as 3 years old even! It was so much fun watching them run because they were simply adorable :D

You guys have to take a really close look at the timing for this photo, I took this photo when the first kid came running through the finishing line and I swore everyone was in awe because this kid finished 1km in 4 MINS AND 30 SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so shocked because 4 mins and 30 seconds, I was barely anywhere near 500 metres and the little boy finished 1km in 4 mins plus...

The last kid came in at about 13 minutes odd and it was considered really fast, for me at least. I'll probably take about twice the time!!

Kay enough of that, I shall start going running tomorrow because the next run I wanna conquer would be the 10km run! Were you there at the run? Share your experience with me!

Death by Chocolate

April 16, 2010 12:23 AM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

Hello guys!

Ok I know this is complete random and going to be very very out of point from my entire blog post but I reeeeeeeeeeaaaaally have to share this with you guys! Introducing my nephew!

Isn't he the cutest little boy ever? I just had to post his photo up because I just visited him earlier today and for once he actually stood there and let me take a photo of him. Btw, he wears that pair of yellow Crocs around the house. I tried to get him to take it off but he started crying. Hahaha. Ok enough of this sweet little thing, now on to even sweeter things, and I mean sweeter, literally!

Well, just the other day I had this mad insane craving for dessert, I haven't had dessert for the longest time. And plus my undying love for chocolate, I really needed my chocolate and dessert fix. I was thinking of a warm chocolate cake with ice-cream at the side. While I was at work, I was actually dreaming and drooling of sinking my teeth into the warm chocolate cake rather than selling shoes dilligently. Hahaha. So I met up with my dessert-buddy, ESH!

I told her all about my mad craving and she brought me to this place that she claimed, would be like a trip to heaven without dying. Hahaha. And so we ended up in Vivocity and for a moment I thought she tricked me because where in the world would Vivo have awesome heart-melting desserts besides Ben & Jerry's, which were obviously not enough to cure my craving. Turns out I was wrong and this is where we went to!

MAX BRENNER CHOCOLATE BAR!!!!!!!!!

I didn't even need to taste anything to be happy, knowing that I was in a chocolate bar was already satisfying 10% of my craving. Hahaha. I couldn't wait to order, as I flipped through the menu I was getting more and more excited and if Esh hadn't stopped me, I would've ordered at least half the things in the menu just because they're made of chocolate! Its pretty awesome because they serve everything from hot and cold drinks to ice cream and waffles and crepes!

Their hot chocolate are placed in hug mugs like the one above along with a small saucer of chocolate bits so you can add them to determine how chocolatey you want it to be! Its really awesome compared to some hot chocolate outside where they merely make it with the cocoa powder and hot water, drinking it doesn't make you all warm and fuzzy!

Also, if you aren't a fan of hot chocolate, you can always try out their iced-blended ones which are equally good!

Okay up next is my personal faaaaaavourite, its so chocolate it gave me an instant chocolate high!

Don't be fooled by the size in the photo, when it first arrived I thought it might not be enough to satisfy my craving but boy was I wrong (for the 2nd time)! This consisted of 2 waffles and 2 scoops of ice cream and chocolate sauce all over, you see the cyclindrical thingy in the top right corner, those are filled with chocolate beans for us to pour over the waffles to get the added crunchy taste! This dessert was really super super filling, maybe it was the waffles but I absolutely loved it and definitely going back for more!

Esh and I left the place completely satisfied and actually.. I think I might wanna go back tomorrow to try out their chocolate fondue! :D

Yummy Tummy Foods

April 5, 2010 11:00 PM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

Last week, a friend of mine brought me to this much talked about hawker centre that was always crowded, and when I say crowded, I really mean CROWDED because of all the yummy food they have there! I was a little skeptical, I mean.. how is it even possible that one hawker centre can have thaaaaaaat many famous yummy food. But obviously I was proven wrong when I stepped foot into BEDOK NORTH BLK 85 FENGSHAN MARKET!

Firstly, the crowd was insane throughout the night! We had to walk around for quite a bit before actually managing to find a place to sit. It was a typical hawker centre, except that almost every stall there is bustling and snaking with queues. I, obviously went weak in the knees seeing all the delicious food before me. Okay enough of all that, I'm excited to show you what we ate! I had to find the photos online because I was too much of a glutton to remember to take snapshots. Hahaha.

FIRST UP,

MINCED MEAT NOODLE 'AKA' BAK CHOR MEE.

from mydemoninyou.blogspot.com

What's different about this minced pork noodle is that the usual one we get to eat outside has either dry or soup and has ingredients such as fishcake, mushroom but the one here has a clear soup with just minced pork and meat balls. The stall owner also serves it with a spoonful of red chilli for you to mix with your noodles! Despite how simple this dish looks, its really good compared to alot of minced meat noodles out there!

NEXT..

OYSTER OMELETTE

from mydemoninyou.blogspot.com

I simply cannot stop raving about the oyster omelette because for the first time, I can finish an entire plate myself (okay without the oysters!). Usually the Oyster Omelette sold elsewhere isn't as crispy and you would get sick of it after awhile but this one at Bedok 85 is completely different, right from the first to the very last bite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CHICKEN WINGS

from mydemoninyou.blogspot.com

I liked the chicken wings very much because it was grilled the right way, without it tasting burnt or undercooked! Plus I realised that you don't always get to find such chicken wings in Hawker Centres unless you're at Newton, Lau Pa Sat or Bedok 85! Not sure where else has such chicken wings so drop me a comment if you guys know of other places ok!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST,

CHAI CHEE PORK PORRIDGE

The porridge is smooth silky and tasty and the pork is just right!
FRIEND A : Eh, what do you think I should order ah?
FRIEND B : YAH.. they have like so many different kinds, chicken, fish, century egg.
ME : WHAT IS WRONG WITH BOTH OF YOU?! The signboard says Chai Chee Pork Porridge, of course Pork Porridge!!!!!

Yup, they also serve other sorts of porridge apart from just pork porridge, I haven't exactly tried the others so I'll definitely be going back for more!

Well, what I tried there is merely a small portion of what they have and although I was dying to try everything else, my tummy had a major protest and refused to allow anymore food in ): ):

ALRIGHTY TILL NEXT TIME AND MORE FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD GALORE! <3

Really, Retail?

March 30, 2010 08:39 PM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

I was at work that day when this really random thought hit me - sometimes I believe that not everyone loves what they're doing and I have this love-hate relationship towards my current job. Don't get me wrong, I actually love my job more than my previous jobs and I love it more than I detest it.

Honestly, I had no idea why I chose retail in the first place. When I announced that I was going to get a retail job, the first thing my mom told me was, "You sure? It's going to be very boring you know. Just stand there and wait for customers to come in". That got me thinking for a bit but then again, I can't exactly be a chooser, can I? I started off with FNB years ago, but I gave it up due to my inability to balance anything more than a plate on both hands. Neither was I able to hold a tray with my hand without unintentionally drenching my customer with 5 glasses of iced cold water on a really cold night. (Thank god, she was really forgiving!)

So retail it is, or was.

Turns out that my mom was kinda wrong. Working in retail can be quite the challenge so here are my quick guide if you ever wanna consider working in retail part time to support the shopping and expenses while in poly!

The dummies guide to working in a retail shop!

1. Be fast reacting.

You could be happily munching on your dinner / lunch / snack when a customer comes cruising in and decides to ask about the price so that would mean you need to transform into a hamster almost immediately and stuff the extra food somewhere that isn't visible and answer them.

2. You will be ignored 1/5 of the time.

When customers come into the shop and you sink into a very happy (can be genuine or not) "HI, WELCOME!", be prepared to just be ignored. If you're lucky, customers would turn and smile at you and say hi but there are the few who would just continue walking as if they didn't hear you. But it's not their fault, really. Some people are just shy or prefer to shop alone without interference whilst some just... don't bother. Hahaha.

3. You have to smile, at all times.

Retail is customer service and you always need to have a smile ready. Hahah, initially when I started out retail, I was telling myself "Omg, I have to smile all the time, I'm going to look really silly" But you'll get used to it after a while, think about it this way, you wouldn't want to walk into a shop and have the retail staff look at you as if you owed them money right right right?

4. The customer is mostly right.

Ok I said mostly right because sometimes the customers might have the wrong information about pricings and promotions so.. it's your job to correct them in a friendly polite way! But other than that, yes the customer is right, they know what is right for their feet or for themselves. I have had customers who are very insistent about getting a smaller size even though the bigger size is better, and despite me telling them about it, they still prefer the smaller size, I would just smile because after all, they know their comfort levels better!

5. Know your stuff.

This is super duper important! Like when customers ask you about the products you're selling, you need to have at least a little knowledge about it so you wouldn't be standing there with your mouth wide open searching for answers frantically!

With all that said, I think I made retail sound like some sort of slavery in which you have to bend over backwards for customers but noooooo, that's not true ok? It's fun because you meet customers from all walks of life and the intereaction with each of them is different in their own little way. Plus you get funny experiences with some customers that you can laugh about when you get home, so why not right?

Hahaha, oh and I shall share a little secret with you guys. I'm not a fan of closed toe shoes, I loooooooooove wearing flip flops and most retail shops require you to wear shoes but lucky for me! This is what I wear at work!

OKAY BYEEEEEEEEEEE! <3

Life's a Beach in Bintan!

March 24, 2010 12:51 AM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

Hellooo everyone!

I'm sitting here typing this and applying aloe vera lotion on myself, haha! Having quite the rare case of sunburnt because just last week, while I made my tiny disappearance from this blog, I was actually out of Singapore! :D Pardon the smiley face because it was my first time out of Singapore without my parents along with me! Yes, I'm quite the sheltered child and I won't feel safe without my mom in the same country as I do!

But as a reward to myself for getting through 3 years of poly life and as somewhat of a graduation trip, I headed to the nearby islands (any further and I'll be homesick!) - BINTAN! It was quite an impromptu trip actually. My friend and I made the decision a month before, I hurried down to get my passport done and off we went to...

Nirwana Beach Club is actually part of a bigger resort called Nirwana Gardens and there are many different resorts under Nirwana Gardens such as Mayang Sari (for the romantic feel), Indra Maya, Nirwana Resort Hotel and many more! We chose Nirwana Beach Club because we wanted something simple and I mainly wanted to go to the beach. My whole aim of going to Bintan was really to actually laze on the beach in my bikini everyday and just relax after stressing through 3 years of school!

I didn't even know why we chose Bintan because firstly, I have motion sickness and the only way to get there was through..

I swore I didn't even remembered my motion sickness with all that excitement until I was 1 metre away from boarding the ferry. I grabbed my friend's arm and went "Oh my god, I.. am sea sick!" Okay I shan't elaborate on my friend's mortified face when I said it and the paranoia that followed. Let's just say I sat through the 55-mins ferry ride with a huge NTUC plastic bag on my lap. It didn't matter anyway, I fell asleep 10 minutes after boarding. Hahaha. Ok back to Bintan! I shall let the pictures do the talking!!

Hahah, I had to take the typical touristy shot :D

Our resort even had a mini zoo with animals like crocodiles, pythons, vultures and eagles! It's a pity I didn't manage to get a shot of the animals but these animals were actually confiscated from people who tried to smuggle them out of Indonesia and then donated to the Nirwana Mini Zoo! I was quite amazed because hey, how often does a resort you stay in have a mini zoo with such animals!?

So after exploring the area around the resort, we decided to venture OUT of the resort for some dinner and shopping. We asked the hotel staff and turned out that the resort provides a free shuttle service and different intervals to take you out to this small shopping area called Pasar Oleh Oleh.

It's quite a cool area because the shops are kampong-styled and some of the shop owners actually even live above their shops! I was expecting things to be overpriced over there but noooo, everything was in SGD and are priced quite reasonably. But I guess Bintan's more of a relaxing place rather than a shopping paradise so the only things you can get there are souvenirs and handicrafts and FOOD!

YES, spot the greed in my eyes! I was famished because we barely ate the entire day when we got there so when we spotted this restaurant that sold pretty yummy food at relatively reasonable price! So I plonked myself on the nearest chair and refused to budge. What can I say? A hungry man girl is an angry man girl! For the 2 nights we were at Bintan, we came to the same place for dinner! I loooooooved the food so much, I'm drooling thinking of the food now ):

Well, we spent the rest of the days hanging around the beach because the weather really was perrrrfect and even at night, the stars in the skies are nothing like the sky we see in Singapore. I guess it's because Bintan is darker as compared to Singapore so the stars are much more obvious in the skies. I even spotted a shooting star! Thinking of Bintan now really makes me regret not staying for a day or two longer! But oh well, I'm sure I'll have another chance!!

Shall end up with a happy-girl shot of me at the beach (THE WATERS ARE REALLY CLEAR!!!!). I know you can't see my face here, but I'm not exactly a jumpshot person, thank god for the long hair or you might just see my really extremely unglam face! :D

Let me know what you think about this and leave a comment! Happy holidays all!

iEye an iPhone

March 10, 2010 11:01 AM by Germaine Pereira (GP)

Helllooo guys, so how have you been? March holidays are here, aren't there?

Well, I know I'm a little slow in talking about this, but forgive me because firstly, I'm not exactly tech smart, and secondly, I definitely don't have the money to indulge in techie gadgets. Ok, maybe I would if I stop spending so much on food. Anyway, last week I finally got my hands on this baby...

Yezz, I've got my hands on the iPhone after it's been out for like, forever, and almost everyone out there has an iPhone. I swear, when I board the train, I can definitely spot at least one person with an iPhone in the same cabin. Regardless, I got myself a white one because the guy at the shop told me that "white would look nicer when you put a neon coloured casing". I regretted my colour choice, however, once I stepped out of the shop. ):

And then I went into a massive iPhone frenzy for the next few days! Ok I'm actually sort of still in my iPhone frenzy right now, because the sheer number of applications available on the App Store is simply amazing! And I'm not even talking about the paid ones! There're plenty of free ones to go about, and they are really awesome. And I even manage to get myself addicted to TAP TAP REVENGE 3. Hehe.

Hahah, well, actually I'd thought that I would be a massive failure at this game because I have really bad hand-eye coordination but so far it's been good! :D I get to tap my fingers to my favourite tunes and with every stage I pass, i get to download even more free tracks! Not only that, did I mention it's free? :) Haha, okay, games aside, there's another application that's been really useful to me, so I hope it is for you guys too!

And it's *drumrolls* SGBUSES..

The really cool thing about SGBUSES is that it not only tells you the routes of the different buses, it also tells you the arrival times of the buses you want to take. I absolutely LOVVVVVEEE this function because knowing when the next bus is coming really helps me to plan my time properly. Plus, the weather these days has been insanely warm, and waiting at the bus stop for a long time would make me perspire like crazy. so with this app, I make sure I time everything nicely so that my wait will be a short one! Consider this ap when you are in school or in NP. It will help a lot, especially if you're rushing your projects or homework. :)

With all these amazing applications coming up, if only there was an application we could use in NP! Like maybe this application to tell us if Makan Place (our popular air con food court) has available seats so we wouldn't have to wait around during the busy lunch periods for seats, or maybe even to look for other food alternatives! (Sorry, food is really what I can think of!) Or even one that can surf as a GPS to navigate around NP when we get lost! That'll be quite cool, don't you think? Especially for the first years coming in April! Dear Editor, are you reading this? :)

Ok, I'm off to continue tapping you know what. Let me know what you think. Do you own an iPhone yourself? Or are you sticking to the traditional handphone model? Leave a comment below, and that's it! Till next time! <3
